The Copywriter Who Actually Gets Your Business
Because I've lived it. Behind the bar. On the insurance phone lines. Running events. Managing social media that reached 1.6 million people in one month.
How I Learned What Actually Works
Most copywriters learn from books. I learned from 15 years of watching what makes people open their wallets.
Start here: I was 23, booking events in Akron. Every night, I watched the same thing happen. Some events would pack the place. Others? Crickets. Same venue. Same atmosphere. Different results.
The difference was never the event itself. It was always the words used to promote it.
So I started paying attention. I read every flyer. Every social media post. Every email blast. I noticed which words got people through the door and which ones got ignored.
"The best marketers don't study marketing. They study people."
That's what I did for 15 years. Studied people.
Fast forward. I'm working as a licensed insurance agent, insuring contractors across 48 states. Roofers. HVAC guys. Plumbers. Electricians.
These aren't people who buy on emotion. They're skeptical. They've been burned before. They need proof. Specific proof. Not corporate buzzwords.
I learned how to handle every objection. "I need to think about it." "My current guy is cheaper." "I don't see the value." After thousands of calls, I knew exactly which words closed the sale and which ones killed it.
Then came The Matinee.
I joined as a bartender in 2023. Over the years, I moved into event programming, production management, and eventually took over as Marketing Coordinator in October 2024.
When I took over social media management, the venue averaged under 1,000 profile visits per month and under 2,000 reach. By April 2025, we hit 1.6 million monthly reach and 2.9 million views.
The breakthrough came from content diversification. I stopped writing venue announcements and started creating experiences. Bartender personality features. Kitchen content when we opened our food program. Community partnerships. The viral Hurricane Shot video. Consistent daily posting with direct-response principles.
Here's what most copywriters miss: You can't fake insider knowledge.
When I write for a hospitality venue, I'm not guessing. I've booked the talent. Advance the shows. Managed the logistics. Handled the social media. Watched which posts drive ticket sales and which ones get ignored. I turned a 2.7K reach into 1.6 million at its peak.
When I write for contractors, I don't need to research their industry. I insured them for 6 years. I know their customers. I know their objections. I know the exact words that close the deal.
That's why my copy works. It's not a theory. It's battle-tested, real-world experience backed by AWAI training and CA$HVERTISING principles.

What I Believe About Copywriting
Specificity Wins
Vague promises lose to concrete proof. "Grow your business" loses to "Grew Instagram from 6K to 2M followers." Always be specific.
Features Are Boring
Nobody cares that your product has "advanced technology." They care that it saves them 3 hours a day. Talk about outcomes, not features.
Test Everything
What worked for one business might not work for yours. Test headlines. Test offers. Test CTAs. Let data tell you what works.
Insider Knowledge Converts
You can't fake understanding someone's industry. Real experience beats research every time. That's why I only write for industries I've worked in.
Psychology Drives Sales
The Life-Force 8. The 9 Learned Wants. Social proof. Scarcity. Authority. These aren't tricks. They're how humans make decisions. Use them.
Words > Design
A beautiful website with weak copy loses to ugly copy that converts. Design matters. But words drive action. Always invest in words first.
